Main activities

VMC's twin-towered building with over 600 beds is supported by the most up-to-date systems and technology. The hospital is supported by respected, research-based medical and nursing schools, and delivers both routine inpatient care and highly specialized medical treatment and surgical procedures. The hospital is home to the region's only Level I Trauma Center as well as the region's only Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The School awarded its first degrees in 1875. Now, with approximately 100 new students a year, the School is one of the leading centers of medical education in the United States. The School of Nursing became part of VMC in 1984. Several innovative programs are offered within the school as it continues to educate individuals who are integral to the health-care team.
