Zambia UK Health Workforce Alliance

Member profile

The Zambia UK Health Workforce Alliance is a growing network of Zambian-based and UK-based organizations (50+). They work together to promote and improve the coordination and impact of Zambia-UK joint work in health.

Main activities

The Zambia UK Health Workforce Alliance

  • provides a focal point to help ensure that Zambia’s health needs and requests for support and mutual development are known and understood by UK organizations.
  • promotes specific projects at the request of the Zambia Ministry of Health such as the Zambian UK Health Workforce Alliance project to strengthen health training and education in Zambia, which is being implemented by THET (Tropical Health & Education Trust) in collaboration with other members of the Alliance, among others.
  • helps ensure better coordination between all the many groups which have links and partnerships between the two countries – these might involve universities, hospitals and other health organisations, diaspora groups, NGOs, private companies and government departments. We do this through events and the HIFA-Zambia global e-mail forum (being piloted at presently).
  • will test out the concept of such an Alliance with a view to creating others between the UK and other countries as appropriate.

Links to the health workforce crisis

The Zambia UK Health Workforce Alliance supports the Government of the Republic of Zambia to implement its plans to increase and develop its health workforce and its health systems. It also contributes towards achieving the health related Millennium Development Goals and to provide opportunities for learning and development for health workers and institutions in both Zambia and the UK.
