World Blood Donor Day was celebrated in the Cayman Islands in a variety of ways. A week before, Carl Brown, Chairman of Cayman Blood Donor Service, participated in a Youth Radio Talk Show entitled “Social well-being and health of youth” with one section dedicated to the importance of blood donation.

On 14 June, blood donors received stickers with their blood groups for their driving licence, plus windscreen stickers to identify them as blood donors. The hospital has a dedicated parking spot for blood donors.

A morning television show was broadcast from the blood bank, and in the evening news, a testimony from a donor was heard. A full page advertisement appeared in the daily newspaper and there was an article in the press about the necessity of improving the donor pool. A radio interview with blood bank personnel was broadcast.

During the afternoon, there was a social gathering for all blood donors.
