Etablissement Français du Sang Alpes Méditerranée celebrated World Blood Donor Day in fine style. A group of young donors representing the region were invited to host the event. The 10 young blood ambassadors were given a short helicopter ride. Afterwards, they formed a welcoming committee for a group of around 20 sick children and young people from the Timone Hospital. One of the objectives was to held them forget for the space of a special day the constraints of hospital life. They were given brief helicopter rides, much enjoyed by all, thanks to the local Prefecture, who gave permission for the flights to take place at the location.

In addition, a blood collection mobile was set up, where volunteers could come to donate blood. The World Blood Donor Day Village was located on the esplanade near Marseilles. As well as the blood collection mobile, there was a marquee containing awareness raising material for the public, and another equipped as a salon for the young donor hosts.

A sailing ship belonging to the Union Nationale des centres sportifs de plein Air (UCPA) offered a trip round the port of Marseilles.

Thanks were extended to the partners and sponsors who made the event possible.

Across the whole region, more than 1800 bakers lent their support to World Blood Donor Day. Customers received their usual bread orders in a bag with the colours of the event. Bakeries displayed banners and gave out information leaflets about voluntary blood donation.
