World Blood Donor Day was the occasion to launch the new web site of the Blood Donors Association (BDA) in Mauritius. It was launched officially by the Minister of Education and Human Resources at celebrations to mark the day. This year, the celebratory event was held at the Collège d’État de Bon Accueil in the east of the country. A number of dignitaries attended including the Senior Chief Executive of the Ministry of Health, and the WHO Representative in Mauritius.
A representative of the Ministry of Health read out a message from the Minister, officially opening the celebrations. This was followed by the President of the BDA who thanked blood donors and sponsors of the organization. Following the launch of the web site of the BDA, a Pledge 25 Club scheme was announced by students from the college. A blood collection took place, and donors were presented with chocolates and small gifts.
The BDA has been in existence since 1999, and works to recruit and motivate voluntary, non-remunerated blood donors. It enjoys a close partnership with the Ministry of Health and Quality of Life, and the Blood Transfusion Centre.
