As in previous years, the Norwegian Red Cross Blood Programme thanked all donors on World Blood Donor Day with the gift of a special rose with a thank you label. Over 1 700 roses were given out around the country on 14 June, more than a normal day’s collection, as collections on that special day were larger. Some collection sites had other programmes running alongside the rose gift. Red Cross branches also, in many places, had stands in the streets advertising World Blood Donor Day and creating interest with different ideas, such as a “Teddy Bear Hospital” for children.

“Thank you” advertisements and awareness raising information was distributed to all blood banks and Red Cross district offices, used in local campaigns and with the local media.

A large Norwegian oil company also ran an internal campaign on voluntary blood donation in all its branches throughout the day.
