World Blood Donor Day on 14 June constitutes an opportunity to thank voluntary blood donors, as well as to raise public awareness to help change behaviour to a culture of voluntary blood donation. This was done through information fairs and intensive campaigning in different places throughout the country designed to increased voluntary blood donation.

The day was also the occasion to hold a scientific activity on the clinical use of blood. With the sponsorship of the Peruvian Medical School, the seminar took place in the auditorium of the Ministry of Health from 14 – 16 June. Staff members from the Ministry, regional health authorities, institutes, hospitals, private clinics, Peruvian Red Cross Society, patients’ organizations, well-known sports personalities, Rotary Club and Lions Club representatives all attended the event.

Many other activities were carried out during the week from 10 to 16 June in several Peruvian cities.
