Sun-Young Kim
Biography
Sun-Young Kim is Associate Professor of Global Health Policy at Seoul National University (SNU) Graduate School of Public Health, and currently serves as Director of the SNU Center for Global Health Research. She is also a member of the Expert Committee for ODA Evaluation, commissioned by the Korea’s Prime Minister’s Office. She obtained a B.S. in Pharmacy and an M.P.H. in Health Economics from SNU, and received her Ph.D. in Health Policy (concentration: Decision Sciences, specialized area: Global Health) from Harvard University. Before joining Seoul National University, she was a core faculty member of the Center for Health Decision Science at Harvard University and Assistant Professor at University of Texas School of Public Health.
Her initial research for over 18 years primarily focused on mathematical modeling of infectious diseases (including HBV, HPV, rotavirus, pneumococcus, cholera, group B streptococcus, and pertussis) and conducting decision analysis and economic evaluation of vaccination strategies in the GAVI countries, with support from the Gates Foundation, PAHO, and US CDC. Her research interests have then evolved towards implementation research using mixed-methods design, to promote participatory implementation of global health programs (e.g., maternal pertussis immunization). Her recent research includes more policy-driven issues such as global health security and global health systems governance and financing.
