Professor Gabriel Parra-Henao
Biography
Gabriel Parra-Henao is a biologist with an MSc and PhD in Medical Entomology and over three decades of experience addressing vector-borne diseases—particularly Chagas disease and arboviruses—through research, fieldwork, and public health leadership across Latin America. He has served in key national and regional roles, including Deputy Director at the National Institute of Health of Colombia, Head of the entomology unit at the Colombia Institute of Tropical Medicine, Director of the Chagas Network, Colombia, and Director of the Center for Tropical Health Research at the Cooperative University of Colombia, where he is Professor of Medical Entomology and Ecology of Disease Vectors at the School of Medicine. His area of expertise includes developing strategies for surveillance, prevention, vector control, and community risk reduction in vulnerable populations.
