Professor Abla Mehio Sibai

Professor Abla Mehio Sibai is Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) and Professor of Epidemiology at the American University of Beirut (AUB). She holds a PhD in epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.

Over the past three decades, she has led Lebanon’s first National Burden of Disease Study, major assessments of ageing policies across Arab countries, and the development of Lebanon’s National Strategy for Older Persons. She is co-founder of the Center for Studies on Aging and co-founding director of the AUB University for Seniors.

Professor Sibai has authored more than 250 peer-reviewed publications and is the recipient of the 2020 L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science International Award and the 2023 WHO Prize for Research in Health Care for the Elderly, among others. She is internationally recognized for advancing healthy ageing through community-based, policy-relevant research that addresses health inequities across the life course.
