Alexandra Hogan
Biography
Dr Alexandra Hogan is a mathematical infectious disease modeller, focussed on using modelling to quantify the public health impact of new vaccines. Dr Hogan is a Scientia Lecturer in the School of Population Health at the University of New South Wales, Australia, where she is funded by a National Health and Medical Research Council Investigator Grant. She has a B.Sc. in Applied Mathematics from the University of Sydney and her PhD (Australian National University) focussed on modelling transmission dynamics and seasonality of RSV. She was previously a postdoctoral fellow at the MRC Centre for Global Infectious Disease Analysis at Imperial College London, where she maintains an honorary lectureship.
In her current research, Dr Hogan applies dynamic models to help inform longer term planning of ongoing COVID-19 vaccination programs in Australia and the broader region. She has experience in producing and translating modelling outputs to inform public policy decisions on the use of novel vaccines, with a particular interest in vaccination strategies for P. falciparum malaria, RSV, and COVID-19. Through her research, she aims to provide quantitative evidence to guide how new vaccines can most effectively and efficiently be implemented, while considering the broader immunisation and health system priorities within different resource settings and countries.
