Biography

I am a board-certified obstetrics and gynecology specialist, master's degree in Infectious Diseases (1998) and PhD in Public Health (2003). I am a professor in the Department of Social Medicine at the Federal University of Espírito Santo, Brazil, where I was the coordinator of the Postgraduate Program in Infectious Diseases from 2007 to 2011 and dean for the community outreach from 2014 to 2019. I was president for two years and scientific director for six years of the Brazilian Society for Sexually Transmitted Infections (IST) and was part of the team that organized the international congress of IUSTI and ISSTDR in Rio de Janeiro in 2017.Currently, I am the coordinator for the STI program of the Department of Chronic Conditions and IST at Brazilian Ministry of Health. I have experience in the field of Medicine, with emphasis on the epidemiology of infectious diseases, working mainly with STI, HIV/AIDS and reproductive health. I supervised 28 masters and 17 doctoral students to completion and have published 177 papers in peer-reviewed journal primarily on STI and HIV.
