Professor Angelica Espinosa Miranda

Professor Angelica Espinosa Miranda is a board-certified specialist in Obstetrics and Gynecology, with a master’s degree in Infectious Diseases and a Ph.D. in Public Health. She is a Full Professor in the Department of Social Medicine at the Federal University of Espírito Santo (UFES), Brazil. From 2019 to 2024, she worked at the Brazilian Ministry of Health, where she served as National Coordinator of the Sexually Transmitted Infections Program and later as Director of Programs at the Secretariat of Health Surveillance and Environment. 

Professor Espinosa Miranda’s academic and research activities focus on the epidemiology and public health response to HIV, syphilis, HTLV, and other sexually transmitted infections, with particular emphasis on reproductive health and the prevention of mother-to-child transmission. She currently serves as Regional Director for Latin America of the International Union against Sexually Transmitted Infections (IUSTI).  

She is also involved in international disease elimination initiatives and serve on the PAHO Regional Validation Committee and the WHO Global Validation Advisory Committee for the elimination of mother-to-child transmission of HIV, syphilis, and hepatitis B. Through these roles, she contributes to the evaluation and strengthening of national strategies aimed at achieving and sustaining elimination targets.
