Anna S. Levin is an Infectious Disease Specialist and Professor of the Department of Infectious Diseases at the University of São Paulo (USP), Brazil. Her main research interests are epidemiology and prevention of healthcare-acquired infections and of antimicrobial resistance. She currently is President of Committee on Infection Control of Hospital das Clínicas, a tertiary care hospital affiliated with USP). She is a consultant for the Brazilian National Healthcare Agency (ANVISA) and for the São Paulo State Health Department, on healthcare-acquired infections and antimicrobial resistance and conducts research on the epidemiology of resistance in the State of São Paulo, and the effectiveness of different interventions on the reduction of infections in the state, and strategies to control resistance in hospitals. In 2017, work on Zika virus led to a publication in Nature tracking its worldwide transmission. In 2018, due to a yellow fever outbreak, she led the team that described in NEJM a new clinical aspect of the disease, late-onset relapsing hepatitis. She is currently Director of HC’s Division of Infectious Diseases, the largest reference hospital in the country for treating severe COVID-19. The ID Division was responsible for coordinating and supervising the clinical management of cases, and for COVID-19 research.
