Biography

Professor Dr Asad Aslam Khan Sitara-i-Imtiaz is currently working as Professor Emeritus, College of Ophthalmology and Allied Vision Sciences (COAVS), Visiting Professor of Ophthalmology King Edward Medical University (KEMU), Provincial Coordinator Punjab for Prevention of Blindness Programme.

Professor Khan’s qualifications are MBBS, MS Ophth., PhD (Ophth.) FRCS (Glasgow) FACPS and FCPS (BD).

He has over 39 years of ophthalmology, 33 years of teaching, 18 years of administration, 18 years of financial handling, 22 years of resource mobilization and 22 years international collaboration of institutions experience. Professor Khan has published 110 original research papers, attended 109 national and international conferences, workshops and courses and presented 63 original research papers in conferences.

During the tenure as National Coordinator for the prevention of blindness, the prevalence of blindness in Pakistan reduced from 0.9 % in year 2004 to 0.45 % in year 2021, cataract surgical rate increased from 2340 in 2004 to 5320 in year 2019 and blinding trachoma was eliminated from Pakistan.

He was the recipient of national and international awards like Sitara-e-Imtiaz by the President of Pakistan, President of Pakistan, Ramzan Ali Syed Award, Promotion to Grade 21 on meritorious grounds, National Award by the Ministry of Regulation and Services, APAO Award for the Prevention of Blindness, Eye Health Hero Award by IAPB.
