Dr Atsuro Tsutsumi

Dr Atsuro Tsutsumi is currently Coordinator (Regional Advisor) for Mental Health and Substance Use at the WHO Regional Office for the Western Pacific and has over 20 years of experience in mental health policy, research and mental health systems strengthening.

His work has focused on integrating mental health into primary health care and broader health and social systems, contributing to the development of evidence-based mental health policies and programmes across diverse country contexts.

Dr Tsutsumi holds PhDs in health sciences and medicine, with advanced training in global mental health. Prior to joining WHO, he served as Professor and Director at Kanazawa University in Japan, where he led national and international research initiatives in global mental health.
