Dr Bernhard Fattinger

Biography

Dr Bernhard Fattinger worked as Minister Plenipotentiary (Health) at the Permanent Mission of Austria to the Office of the United Nations and Special Organizations in Geneva, Switzerland, from September 2017 until January 2023..

He graduated in law from the University of Graz, Austria (PhD, 1984) and obtained postgraduate diplomas in international relations (Diplomatic Academy Vienna, 1987), tissue banking (TPM-DTI Foundation, Barcelona) and as a clinical trials specialist (Medical University of Graz). He also pursued academic studies in public health (Medical University Vienna and University of Vienna).

During his professional career as a senior legal expert at the Federal Chancellery of the Republic of Austria (1992–1994), the European Commission in Luxembourg (1999–2002) and the Austrian Federal Ministry of Health (since 1994), he also served as co-founder and co-organizer of the First and Second International Conference on Organ Transplantation and Physical Activity (2015, 2016) and authored several articles on public health and health policy.

He gained specialized expertise in the field of medical devices and medical devices nomenclature as senior expert in the department for medical devices of the Austrian Ministry of Health (2014–2017) and in particular as EU burden sharer for the standardization of medical devices nomenclature in Geneva (since 2019).
