Dr Bharat Rewari
Biography
Dr B.B. Rewari is a clinician turned public health professional with significant experience in policy and strategic planning, management of public health programs at national and international level.
He served as Regional Advisor for hepatitis, HIV and syphilis (HHS) at WHO SEARO and also as acting WHO Representative to Bhutan. He supported Member States in designing, implementing and monitoring program for HHS and comorbidities. He led the development of first Integrated Regional Action Plan for HHS for SEAR (2022-2026), which paved way for integrated national plans in some SEAR countries.
He brings in extensive experience on EMTCT of HIV and syphilis, through supporting countries on validation tools, processes, reviewing the national and regional validation reports. During his tenure, three countries—Thailand, Maldives and Sri Lanka, were validated and revalidated for maintenance of EMTCT of HIV and syphilis.
He has worked across diverse geographies, governments, communities, cultural environments and has in-depth understanding of health and community systems at field level. Prior to SEARO, he conceptualized and led India’s ART programme, second largest globally.
He has contributed in various TWGs and GDGs at national, regional and global level; has published extensively on public health response for HHS; and served as editor for indexed journals.
