Biography

Professor Bhushan Patwardhan is a leading biomedical scientist and academic leader with over four decades of contributions to integrative health research, traditional medicine sciences, and knowledge systems. A Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Medical Sciences (India), he serves as National Research Professor–Ayush, supporting national and global efforts to strengthen evidence, safety, and innovation in traditional and integrative medicine. He is a member of the Lancet Citizens’ Commission on Reimagining India’s Health System and chairs several scientific advisory committees, including ICMR–NITM Belagavi and DBT–IBSD Imphal. His research spans Ayurvedic biology, reverse pharmacology, Ayurgenomics, network pharmacology, and translational integrative health. He is the founding Editor‑in‑Chief of the Journal of Ayurveda and Integrative Medicine (Elsevier) and author of Genome to Om. He has published over 200 peer‑reviewed papers, holds 10 patents, and is among the world’s highly cited biomedical scientists.
