Professor Brendon Kearney

Biography

Professor Brendon Kearney, MBBS FRACP FRACMA FAAPL, is a consultant hematologist at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and University of Adelaide, Australia.

He has a wide experience on medical devices and global health and took on several leadership roles in Australia and internationally.  He has been CEO of SA Health, the Royal Adelaide Hospital and the Institute of Medical and Veterinary Science. As Director of Public Health, he supported services to remote communities, particularly Aboriginal communities. He was Deputy Chair of the Medical Services Advisory Committee, which recommends reimbursement of medical devices for Medicare, Australia’s Universal Health Coverage system. For three decades, he chaired the Australian and New Zealand Health Ministers’ Advisory Committee on Health Technology, advising on the introduction of medical devices to the public health system. He has supported the progress of universal health coverage in Asia as Chair of the HTAi Asia Policy Forum with involvement in Indonesia, South Korea, Thailand, Fiji and the South Pacific. As current Vice President and Past President of Euroscan International, he has also supported the work with WHO on innovative medical devices for low- and middle-income countries.

He was appointed to the Order of Australia (AM) in recognition for his work in health care, the Sidney Sax Medal, and the David Banta Award for Health Technology by Health Technology Assessment International. His experience and expertise would be provided to WHO to support global health agendas and universal health coverage through the appropriate use of and equitable access to medical devices.
