Professor Chibundu Ezekiel
Biography
Chibundu is a seasoned food safety expert with nearly two decades of experience in the field. He has led numerous research projects with a focus on food microbiology, chemical contaminant monitoring, exposure and risk assessment, as well as human biomonitoring in Africa. With over 18 years of university teaching experience at Babcock University (Nigeria), where he serves as a Professor of Food Microbiology and Mycotoxicology, and Clifford University (Nigeria) as a Visiting Professor, he has supervised several undergraduate and graduate students. Since 2023, he has been a Senior Scientist at the University of Natural
Resources and Life Sciences (BOKU), Vienna, where he coordinates two research cooperation and academic projects in Nigeria and Ethiopia. Chibundu previously served as Technical Advisor for the Partnership for Aflatoxin Control in Africa (PACA), an initiative of the African Union Commission. He also worked as National Food Safety Expert on a Technical Cooperation Project (TCP) addressing aflatoxins at the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, based in Abuja, Nigeria. He was a contributing expert on a World Health Organization (WHO) team tasked with synthesizing global evidence on the burden of disease caused by foodborne aflatoxin exposure (Reference No: CTTF-001). Chibundu is the recipient of numerous research and travel grants, fellowships, and awards, including the prestigious Brigitte Gedek Science Prize for Mycotoxicology in 2023.
