Chido Rwafa-Madzvamutse
Biography
Dr. Chido Rwafa- Madzvamutse [MBChB (UZ), MMed Psychiatry (UZ), MPhil Public Mental Health (UCT)] is a consultant psychiatrist and public mental health specialist from Zimbabwe with experience as a clinician in both the public and private practice of psychiatry. She has also been involved in policy development and strategic planning for mental health in Zimbabwe as part of government where she previously served as the Deputy Director for Mental Health Services in the Ministry of Health and Child Care. She has also been involved in public mental health research in government and in partner organizations to help contribute to data driven strategies and policies for mental health in the country. She is a past chair of the Zimbabwe College of Psychiatrists, the professional body of psychiatrists in Zimbabwe where she helped to raise awareness about mental health and the practice of psychiatry in the country. She is currently transitioning into academia in Namibia to continue mental health research and teaching of clinical psychiatry. She is a keen advocate for mental health and mental health literacy, writing a weekly opinion column in Zimbabwe’s main daily paper, actively promoting greater awareness about mental health and wellbeing at individual, family, community, organization and policy maker level.
