Biography

Chris Kenyon is Head of the STI Unit at the Institute of Tropical Medicine, Antwerp, and practices as an infectious diseases physician at the University Hospital Antwerp and the University of Cape Town.

His research focuses on the epidemiology, prevention, and control of sexually transmitted infections, with a particular emphasis on antimicrobial resistance in bacterial STIs. He leads research on antimicrobial stewardship and the development of antimicrobial-sparing approaches, including the use of antiseptics, bacteriophages, and other novel interventions.

His work also explores patterns of antimicrobial resistance in Neisseria species and the impact of antimicrobial exposure on resistance emergence. He is principal investigator of several clinical and implementation studies evaluating STI screening strategies, gonorrhoea treatment approaches, and interventions to reduce the burden of STIs while mitigating antimicrobial resistance.
