Dr Christine Sekaggya-Wiltshire

Biography

Dr Christine Sekaggya-Wiltshire is an internal medicine specialist at Mulago National Referral Hospital, in Uganda. She is also a senior research scientist at the Infectious Diseases Institute of Makerere University College of Health Sciences and Senior Lecturer in the Department of Internal Medicine at Makerere University in Uganda. Her primary research interest is in HIV, tuberculosis (TB) and non-malignant hematology. In particular, she has led clinical trials, pharmacokinetic and pharmacogenomic studies evaluating doses of anti-TB drugs in therapy, looking at the safety, efficacy and drug-drug interactions related to high dose rifampicin and isoniazid, a TB treatment shortening study and evaluation of the safety and pharmacokinetics of TB preventive treatment during programmatic roll-out. She has led TB case finding studies involving community health workers and use of private sector, particularly private pharmacies for TB screening, diagnosis and linkage to care in rural and urban Uganda, and projects aimed at integration of the management of non-communicable diseases in TB care. She is a previous EDCP and Fogarty Global health fellow, current African Academy of Sciences Affiliate, member of the WHO Scientific Development Group for Target Product Profiles for TB diagnostics and American Society of Hematology (ASH) Women in Hematology working group. She has taken part in the formulation of the Uganda Clinical Guidelines for common illnesses, the national essential drugs list, the COVID-19 treatment guidelines and COVID-19 therapeutics guidelines in Uganda.
