Biography
Daria Danilenko was born in Leningrad, USSR in 1983. She graduated from Saint Petersburg State University in 2006 (Microbiology Dept). In 2004-2006, she was a laboratory assistant at the University Biological Research Institute and her main field of research were unicellular algae Chlamydomonas reinhardtii Dang. In 2007, she started working at Smorodintsev Research Institute of Influenza (St Petersburg, Russia).
Daria Danilenko holds a Ph.D. degree in virology (2014), and has been working in the field of microbiology since 2004 and virology since 2007. Since 2016, she is the Deputy Director of the WHO-recognized National Influenza Centre in Saint Petersburg. Being the member of the NIC for more than 13 years, she has provided multiple trainings for cell culturing, influenza virus isolation, typing and subtyping, serological assays, biosafety and mentored several NICs and National Influenza Laboratories in former CIS countries as a WHO temporary Advisor. She is also a mentor for NIC Turkmenistan who received their NIC status in 2019 with her supervision.
Daria Danilenko has also participated in multiple WHO missions and trainings related to virology, biosafety and biosecurity, pandemic preparedness, risk assessment. Her primary research interests include influenza, SARS-CoV-2 and other respiratory viruses with special focus on antigenic properties and evolution.
Being the Deputy Director of Smorodintsev Research Institute of Influenza for the last 5 years, she takes part in epidemiological analysis for influenza and other respiratory viruses as well as contribute to the national recommendations related to influenza and SARS-CoV-2 vaccination, diagnostics, treatment and non-pharmaceutical interventions.
