Biography

David Dowdy is a Professor of Epidemiology and the Executive Vice Dean for Academic Affairs at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Dr Dowdy received his MD and PhD (epidemiology) from Johns Hopkins and completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of California, San Francisco. He is an infectious disease epidemiologist whose research work includes clinical trials, observational studies, economic evaluations, and mathematical models - with a primary focus on TB detection and prevention in high-burden countries. Dr Dowdy is a core faculty member of the Johns Hopkins TB Research Advancement Center (TRAC) and the World Alliance for Lung and Intensive Care Medicine in Uganda (WALIMU). He has published over 300 articles in the peer-reviewed scientific literature, served as principal investigator on numerous research grants, and contributed to TB-related policy guidance at the local, state, national, and international levels. He also oversees academic affairs at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and has mentored over 100 trainees from across the globe.
