David Makumi–Kinyanjui
Biography
David Makumi is an award winning cancer control advocate with close to 20 years’ experience in NCDs control and prevention at clinical, management and leadership, policy advocacy and community engagement.
He is the chair of the advocacy committee at the board of the East Africa Non-Communicable Disease Alliance, a civil society organization that brings together the East Africa Community regional block.
Mr Makumi has previously served on the WHO expert advisory group on elimination of cervical cancer as well as the board of the National Cancer Institute of Kenya among other civil society boards. He has been involved in high-level advocacy, policy and strategy development in noncommunicable diseases through the boards of Kenyan Network of Cancer Organizations and the Non Communicable Diseases Alliance of Kenya where he served full terms.
Mr Makumi, a Registered Nurse with post graduate qualification in Palliative Care was recognized with the 2020 ISNCC Past President Award for his work in oncology nursing.
He currently works as the Chief Executive Officer of Faraja Cancer Support Trust, a charity providing free complementary therapies and financial support to cancer patients.
Mr Makumi has professional interests in low cost NCD care models for NCDs.
