Dr Delia Doreen Djuicy
Biography
Dr Delia Doreen Djuicy is a research scientist at the Virology unit at Centre Pasteur du Cameroun (CPC), specializing in zoonoses and emerging viral diseases. Her expertise in molecular epidemiology was established through a PhD at the Institut Pasteur in Paris that centered on HTLV-1 interspecies transmission and a postdoctoral fellowship at Center for Research in Infectious Diseases (CRID) in Yaoundé in Cameroon on malaria vector insecticide resistance.
Currently, she leads the national reference laboratories for mpox, rabies, and viral hemorrhagic fevers (VHFs), overseeing field surveillance, diagnostics, and genomic epidemiology. She provides strategic consultancy to the Cameroon Ministry of Health and the National Zoonoses Program, championing One Health preparedness approaches for priority diseases like Marburg and mpox.
Globally, she collaborates with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), US Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA), United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA) and CDC-Africa to implement biosecurity and epidemic intelligence strategies. Her leadership roles include serving as a young scientist member of the Pasteur Network Strategic Advisory Board with the specific task of providing strategic advice to the Pasteur Network and its Board. Finally, she is an appointed member of the WHO Advisory Committee for Variola Virus Research (ACVVR).
