Biography
Dr Denis Xavier, MBBS,MD,MSc (Clinical Epidemiology, Biostatistics), is Professor and Head, Pharmacology, and Clinical Research at St. John’s Medical College and Research Institute, Bangalore. Chairman of Doctoral Advisory Committee and previously Vice-Dean for Postgraduate Studies.
Global Faculty, Asian Health at Stanford, USA, and part-time Professor, McMaster, Canada. Listed among Stanford’s Top 2% Global Scientists (2021,2024,2025). Senior Research Scholar PHRI, McMaster University. Xavier built research collaborations across >240 centres in India and Asia since 1999, leading or contributing to >67 multicentre studies involving >175,000 participants.
He is/was Principal Investigator, NIH Centre of Excellence, UK-MRC/Wellcome PROGRESS, and ICMR Centre for Advanced Research and Collaborative Center of Excellence. Research grants from NIH, UK-MRC, Wellcome, CIHR, ICMR, DBT, NHMRC etc. Served or serves on several International and National Advisory Committees and Ethics Boards.
Has >221 peer-reviewed publications in Lancet, NEJM, JAMA, Heart etc., with >170,000 citations and h-index 85. Dr Xavier is Director of annual courses in clinical research and RCTs since 2009 with thousands of participants across 11 countries. Supervised >50 doctoral, postgraduate and undergraduate students. Delivered >300 invited lectures at Universities (Oxford, Harvard, Duke, Stanford, Toronto, North Western, McMaster etc.) as well as major International and National Conferences. Conducted several Workshops on research methods.
