Desalegn Yilak

Mr Desalegn Yilak is a biomedical engineer and medical device management expert with over nine years of experience in Ethiopia’s health sector. He currently serves as the National Health Technology Assessment Focal Person for the Ministry of Health, Ethiopia. He has specialized expertise in health technology assessment, developing evidence-based health policies, and building resilient health infrastructure.

He pursued his studies in Ethiopia, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering from Jimma University. He is currently enhancing his policy expertise as a trainee in the Evidence to Policy (E2P) program with ACRES.

In recognition of his significant contributions to the field, he was awarded the prestigious Dr Lee Jong-Wook Fellowship in 2023. His national policy work is further informed by his foundational experience as the former Director of the Biomedical Engineering Directorate at St. Peter's Specialized Hospital.
