Dhamaravelli (Vimla) Moodley
Biography
Vimla Moodley is an accomplished public health expert with various qualifications in education and health. She holds a master’s degree in public health and has over 30 years of experience in health promotion, disease prevention and social and behavioural change communication (SBCC). She is the former National Director for Health Promotion and Tobacco Control in the Ministry of Health, South Africa.
As the technical expert she led country delegations to Conference of the Party (COPs) on tobacco; and development of the protocol to Eliminate Illicit Tobacco Products. Throughout her career, she served on various technical committees. As an independent consultant, she was the technical lead on NCDs to the UK funded Better Health Programme SA. Her global work in tobacco control includes the participation in the development of a training manual on legislation and enforcement; an information booklet for Focal Points; FCTC reporting tools; and currently as collaborator to Centre for Good Governance in Tobacco Control for biennial country reports on tobacco industry interference. Her specialization in SBCC and passion for promoting health and wellbeing is well recognized locally, nationally, and globally.
