Ezzeddine Mohsni

Biography

Dr Ezzeddine Mohsni is a WHO retiree, working currently as a Principal Expert in the Program named “Essaha Aziza”, being implemented in Tunisia by the European Union.

He is currently a serving member of 1) the WHO Strategic Advisory Group of Experts on Immunization (SAGE); 2) the WHO EMRO Regional Immunization Technical Advisory Group (RITAG); and 3) the Gavi Alliance Evaluation Advisory Committee.

Dr. Ezzeddine Mohsni is a medical doctor and a specialist in public health and epidemiology. He got his “Doctorat d’Etat” in Medicine in 1982 from the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy of Tunis, Tunisia and received a Diploma in Public Health & Epidemiology from the same institution in 1994.

Dr E. Mohsni has over 30 years of experience with vaccines and immunization, at both National and International levels.

Dr Mohsni served first for 8 years (1992-1999) as National EPI Manager at the Ministry of Health, Tunisia; then moved on January 2000 to WHO Eastern Mediterranean Office where he served for 16 years in several senior positions; starting first as medical officer for new vaccines Introduction, in the VPI (Vaccine Preventable Diseases & Immunization) unit (2000-2004), before being promoted as Regional Advisor for the same VPI unit (2005-2008).

From January 2009 till March 2014, Dr Mohsni cumulated the functions of Coordinator for Communicable Diseases Prevention and Control as well as Coordinator for the Polio Eradication Program in the World Health Organization Eastern Mediterranean Region; after which he served as Coordinator Vaccines and Immunization (April 2014 - September 2014) before being nominated as Acting Director for the WHO Eastern Mediterranean Regional Department for Communicable Diseases Prevention and Control (Oct 2014 till retirement on end Jan 2016), and in parallel he assumed the function of Acting WHO Representative in Saudi Arabia (May to June 2014; then May 2015 till 31 January 2016).

From March 2016 till June 2020, Dr Mohsni worked in GHD/EMPHNET as Senior Technical Advisor, overseeing two important clusters, Polio & Immunization, and the Global Health Security one.

Dr Mohsni’s main areas of expertise are Vaccines and Immunization (including Polio Eradication, Measles Elimination, vaccine procurement and management, monitoring and evaluation, etc.), as well as International Health Regulations (IHR) and Global Health security (preparedness and response to public health emergencies, including emerging and re-emerging diseases)

Dr Mohsni contributed to a quite good number of articles, most of them on vaccines and Immunization.
