Peter B McIntyre is a Professor at the University of Otago, New Zealand (Department of Women’s and Children’s Health, Dunedin School of Medicine) and at the University of Sydney, Australia (Discipline of Child and Adolescent Health). He has professional qualifications as a paediatrician, specialising in infectious diseases, and as a public health physician, and has a PhD in epidemiology and a higher doctorate in Medical Science from the University of Sydney.
He was Director of Australia’s National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance of Vaccine-Preventable Diseases (NCIRS) from 2005-2017 and continues to be a Professorial Fellow with NCIRS. He was an ex-officio member of Australia’s National Immunisation Technical Advisory Group (ATAGI) from 1999-2017. In New Zealand, he is a Medical Advisor to the Immunisation Advisory Centre of the University of Auckland and a member of the COVID-19 Vaccine Technical Advisory Group of the Ministry of Health. For WHO, he was a member of the Immunisation and Vaccines Implementation Research Advisory Committee (IVIR-AC) from 2012-17 prior to joining SAGE in 2019.
Peter McIntyre’s research and publications primarily relate to measurement of disease burden and vaccine impact, and vaccine safety and effectiveness studies, with a special interest in the use of immunisation registers and large linked data sets to answer policy-relevant questions. He was made an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in 2020.
