Dr Antonio Villanueva
Biography
Dr Antonio Villanueva is a specialist in family and community medicine, infectious diseases, and tropical medicine, with a background in public international health, law, education, and clinical research.
With continuing education from Johns Hopkins University and training from the WHO in clinical trials, his global health diplomacy perspective was shaped during his time as a member of an international team at the National Center for Global Health and Medicine in Tokyo.
He currently serves as Senior Research Fellow in Healthcare Policy (Clinical Trials and Health Development) at ERIA (the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia), based in Jakarta. Anton’s work in multicultural team settings leads regional efforts to customize the WHO Model List of Essential In Vitro Diagnostics among ASEAN Member States, in alignment with the ASEAN Diagnostic Security and Self-Reliance initiative and related strategies, to strengthen universal health coverage and emergency preparedness.
