Dr Bhanuja Wijayatilaka

Biography

Dr Wijayatilaka is a Public Health Specialist with 20 years of experience, much of it focusing on the field of Public Health Nutrition and Food Safety, at national and international levels. He is a MBBS graduate with Masters and Doctorate in Community Medicine. He obtained the Donald Court Fellowship of the Royal College of Pediatrics and Child Health and worked as a visiting academic, research fellow, and teaching associate at Monash University, Australia.

He works as the Consultant Community Physician of the Food Safety Unit of the Ministry of Health, Sri Lanka. He has led the development of Nutrient Profile Model for marketing of foods to children, supported development of Food Based Dietary Guidelines, National Nutrition Policy and the School Canteen Policy. Recently, he conducted the National Food Safety Surveys as the Chief Investigator and led the development of regulations to limit industrial trans-fat in the national food supply of Sri Lanka.  His international experience includes working as a Technical Officer (Nutrition) at the World Health Organization, Timor-Leste. In addition, He works as a resource person for the Post Graduate Institute of Medicine and General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, Sri Lanka.
