Dr Champika Wickramasinghe
Biography
I am a consultant in public health(MD Community Medicine) working in the Ministry of Health as Deputy Director General (Non Communicable Diseases).
I have the directorates of Non-Communicable Diseases, Mental Health and Cancer under my purview. Since 2017, I am working as DDG (NCD). I am supervising and providing administrative and technical guidance to directorates under my purview.
Under my direction the NCD Unit is moving from working on screening and lifestyle guidance to improving treatment services. With the help of other stakeholders, we have developed treatment guidelines for common NCDs for primary, secondary and tertiary care.
Under my direction and WHO guidance/assistance the NCD Unit is conducting a review of NCD programme in Sri Lanka. Also, I have obtained support from Vital Strategies to conduct a NCD Policy Review. Using all these documents We are developing the next 10 year policy.
Under my direction the Cancer Control Unit has carried out review of the cancer treatment services and costed a plan to establish one treatment center in a province. It is planned to receive funds in a phased-out manner to improve cancer detection and treatment services.
I have worked as project director and deputy project director for three World Bank Projects. Currently I work as Deputy Project Director for the emergency Response Health Sector Project which is to provide funds for management of COVID epidemic.
