Biography

Dr Anantanasuwong's academic interests cover Sustainable Development Economics, Industrial Organization, Environmental Economics, Economics of Corruption, and Economics of Aging. She is a Principal Investigator of a longitudinal panel study on Health, Aging and Retirement in Thailand (HART) from 2009. The issues related to population aging and policy preparation for aging society in Thailand have drawn her attention since 2007 after meeting many inspiring people related to the Health and Retirement Study (HRS). With their generous support as well as the National Research Commission of Thailand, the Health, Aging, and Retirement in Thailand (HART) has been established as the first  longitudinal household panel survey with 2 pilot waves in FY 2009 and FY 2011 and 3 national waves in FY 2014, FY 2016, and FY 2019. Currently, HART has been receiving a 3-year research grant (FY 2021 – FY 2023) from Thailand Science Research and Innovation (TSRI) and National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) to conduct Wave 4 and to prepare the survey instruments for Wave 5.

Despite many constraints, the HART team will continue to do their best to improve the data quality and publish more scientific papers on aging in Thailand. One challenge for HART is how to create a linkage or a bridge between the socio-economic and self-rated health data to administrative data, especially, related to health examination, health insurance, social insurance.

She has a B.A. in Economics (Economic Development) from Thammasat University, M.A. in Economics (Social Policies) from Kyoto University, and Ph.D. in Economics (Economic Development and Industrial Organization) from University of Tennessee (Knoxville).
