Dr Draurio Barreira

Biography

Draurio Barreira is a Brazilian physician specialized in Public Health and Epidemiology, with over 30 years of experience in HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and other infectious diseases. Currently, he serves as the Director of the Department of HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, Viral Hepatitis, and STIs at the Ministry of Health of Brazil. In this role, he leads the formulation and implementation of public policies for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of these conditions, prioritizing equity, universal access, and scientific evidence.

From 2015 to 2023, he worked at Unitaid in Geneva, managing the Tuberculosis portfolio and a broader range of global health initiatives, including diagnostics, within the organization’s Strategy team. During this period, he contributed to the development and scale-up of innovative technologies and funding models to address neglected diseases and strengthen health systems in low- and middle-income countries.
