Unit Head, People-centred Services, Communities and Determinants (PCD)

Dr Farai Mavhunga is the Unit Head of People-centred Services, Communities and Determinants (PCD) unit at the WHO Global TB Programme in Geneva, Switzerland. The focus of his unit is to develop policy guidelines focussing on comorbidities, vulnerable populations and community engagement, and tools and guidance for national strategic planning for people centred TB care.

Dr Mavhunga has been working at WHO since 2018. Before joining GTB in October 2020, he was the Medical Officer for the End TB Strategy at the WHO Regional Office for Africa. Prior to joining WHO, Dr Mavhunga served as a National Tuberculosis Programme manager for Namibia for almost 10 years

Dr Mavhunga is a public health specialist. He holds an MBChB from the University of Zimbabwe, an MPhil (HIV/AIDS) from the Univerisity of Sellenbosh, South Africa, and an MPH from University of the Western Cape, south Africa. He has contributed to several peer reviewed publications on TB and TB/HIV related topics in peer review journals.
