Dr Francesca Frentiu
Biography
Dr Francesca Frentiu is a Senior Lecturer and leads the Arbovirus Transmission and Evolution Research Group. She has significantly contributed to the development of Wolbachia-based biocontrol for Aedes mosquitoes and continues to work on fundamental aspects of the tripartite endosymbiont/ mosquito vector interaction. A current focus is understanding how climate change will influence mosquito evolution and the transmission of different arboviruses such as dengue, Zika and chikungunya. Dr Frentiu has published in international journals and serves as an expert on national and international funding panels. She is strongly committed to capacity building in the areas of medical entomology and arbovirology, having trained and mentored higher research degree students and scientists from across the world and particularly the Asia-Pacific.
Dr Frentiu is a member of the Vector Control Advisory Group since 2023.
