Dr Heidi Meyer
Biography
Dr Heidi Meyer is head of section International Coordination / Regulatory Service at the Paul-Ehrlich- Institut, the German national regulatory agency responsible for licensing and batch release of vaccines and biomedicines.
She is a biologist and holds a Ph.D. in virology. After her university career she worked in the virology laboratories of IMMUNO AG/Baxter AG, Vienna, Austria on various aspects of the development, preclinical testing and production of viral vaccines as well as on virus safety studies. In 2002 she joined the Paul-Ehrlich-Institut, Federal Agency for Sera and Vaccines of Germany as senior scientist. She was involved in licensing and batch release of viral vaccines including various pandemic influenza vaccines. She acts as an expert for human vaccines and biological products to the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and is a member of a number of vaccine expert groups on a national and international level. She is member of the Biologics Working Party at EMA and a regular temporary adviser to WHO on aspects of vaccine regulation, standardization and prequalification. Since 2016 she is head of the WHO Collaborating Centre for the Standardization and Evaluation of Vaccines at the Paul-Ehrlich- Institut.
