Dr Huma Qureshi
Biography
Dr Huma Qureshi is a consultant gastroenterologist with special interest in liver diseases. She received her medical degree in 1979, MD in medicine in 2000 and FRCP (hon) from Royal College of Physicians of Ireland in 2007. She served as the Executive Director of Pakistan Medical Research Council for 14 years. Her research focuses on viral hepatitis, new diagnostic tests and their validation in clinical practice.
Currently she is the National Hepatitis Focal Point for the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination (M/o NHSR&C). She has developed national hepatitis C screening, testing and treatment guidelines, the national hepatitis B testing and treatment guidelines, guidelines for the prevention of mother to child transmission of hepatitis B, and the national hepatitis strategic framework 2017-2021 and 2024-2027. She was Member/Secretary for Pakistan National Bioethics Committee (2004-2017) and Member/Secretary for the Technical Advisory Group (TAG) on Hepatitis in Pakistan (2013-2017).
In 2007 she conducted the National Survey on Prevalence of Hepatitis B&C in General Population of Pakistan, the national diabetic survey in 2015 and the HIV and hepatitis serosurvey in the Sindh province of Pakistan in 2019.
As a WHO consultant, she developed the Afghanistan hepatitis C testing and treatment guidelines and the hepatitis strategic framework in 2019. She has 172 papers published in medical journals and is the Associate Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Pakistan Medical Association and was the Editor of Pakistan Journal of Medical Research.
