Dr Indeewarie E. Gunaratna
Biography
Dr. Indeewarie Eranga Gunaratna is a medical doctor specialized in public health, with over 20 years of experience in the field. She currently serves as a Consultant Community Physician at the Anti Malaria Campaign, Ministry of Health, Sri Lanka. Her expertise lies particularly in vector-borne diseases, including filariasis, leishmaniasis, malaria, and dengue, with a strong focus on epidemiology, entomology, surveillance, and public health programme implementation.
Dr. Gunaratna holds postgraduate qualifications in Community Medicine (MD, MSc) and a Master’s degree in Medical Entomology and Applied Parasitology. She has extensive experience in research, monitoring and evaluation, and policy-level planning, and has contributed to both national and international public health initiatives. Her work includes leading and collaborating on research related to neglected tropical diseases and strengthening disease surveillance systems.
She is actively involved in global and national technical advisory groups, including contributions to the World Health Organization’s initiatives on neglected tropical diseases, reflecting her commitment to advancing public health practice and research.
