Dr James Kelley

Acting Coordinator, Mekong Malaria Elimination Programme

Biography

Dr James Kelley is Team Lead for Malaria and Vector-borne Diseases and Acting Coordinator of the Mekong Malaria Elimination (MME) Programme at the WHO Regional Office for the Western Pacific, based in Manila, Philippines.

Dr Kelley is a public health specialist with over 25 years of experience in malaria, dengue and other vector-borne diseases across the Asia-Pacific region. He holds a PhD in Tropical Medicine, Medical Microbiology and Immunology from the University of Hawai‘i, and a Master of Public Health in Global Health and Infectious Disease Epidemiology from Emory University in the USA.

Dr Kelley has served in technical and leadership roles with the World Health Organization supporting malaria elimination, dengue prevention and vector-borne disease programme strengthening across the Western Pacific and the Greater Mekong Subregion. His career also includes academic and research appointments with Mahidol University, the University of Hawai‘i, and the U.S. National Institutes of Health Fogarty International Center, with a strong focus on translating evidence into operational public health impact.
