Biography

Dr Jane Achan is a malaria and public health expert with over 20 years of experience in research, clinical care and health systems strengthening, with particular expertise in infectious diseases and maternal and child health. She is currently Principal Advisor at Malaria Consortium, United Kingdom, where she oversees research across countries in Africa and Southeast Asia.

Dr Achan is a medical doctor with specialist training in paediatrics and child health from Makerere University, a Master’s degree in Clinical Trials from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, and a PhD in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Antwerp. Prior to joining Malaria Consortium, she served as Malaria Research Coordinator at the MRC Unit The Gambia at LSHTM, Senior Scientist with the Infectious Diseases Research Collaboration in Uganda, and Lecturer in the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health at Makerere University.

She has served on several global and national scientific and advisory bodies, including committees related to malaria policy, vaccine implementation, ethics and research oversight. Her professional interests include the evaluation of malaria interventions to inform health policy, operational and health systems research, malaria case management, and epidemiological surveillance. Her recent work has included studies on malaria chemoprevention, mass drug administration, and the interaction between malaria and COVID-19.
