Biography

Dr Mari Nagai has 25 years of experience working in global health across the Western Pacific, Southeast Asia, Eastern Mediterranean, African and Pan American countries. In her work, she has conducted research concerning health system strengthening focused on fit-for-purpose health workforce production, deployment, and retention to respond to changing population needs. 

She actively served in the Global Fund Technical Review panel from 2010-2014 and then the Technical Evaluation Reference Group from 2018-2022 as an expert on health systems, as well as several WHO Guideline Development Groups in Geneva. This year, Mari was engaged as a Temporary Adviser to support drafting the framework to reshape a future health workforce in the Western Pacific Region.
