Dr Marjan Farzami

Biography

Dr Marjan R. Farzami is an associate professor of pathology and laboratory medicine and serves as head of the National Reference Laboratory at the  Ministry of Health and Medical Education in Iran. She has over a decade of experience in evaluating, regulating, and monitoring the performance of in vitro diagnostic devices, and plays an active role in the national IVD registration program. 

Dr Farzami has extensive experience in establishing and implementing laboratory quality management systems and has contributed to the development of national standards and diagnostic governance frameworks. She is a member of the Steering Committee of PulseNet Middle East and has contributed to several WHO-led initiatives on evidence development and global guidance for IVDs. 

As the head of the National Antimicrobial Resistance Reference Laboratory, she is actively engaged in the surveillance of priority-resistant pathogens. She also collaborates with several communicable and noncommunicable disease surveillance programs as a member of national committees to define diagnostic requirements and select reliable and affordable assays for diagnostic algorithms nationwide. 

Her areas of interest include the development of appropriate standards related to the quality and performance of  IVDs, antimicrobial resistance and laboratory quality assurance.
