Dr Mary Amuyunzu-Nyamongo

Biography

Dr Mary Amuyunzu-Nyamongo is the Founder Director of the African Institute for Health and Development (AIHD). Prior to this, she worked for KEMRI, AMREF, APHRC and Population Council.  She is an Adjunct Faculty Member of Strathmore University, Nairobi, Kenya. 

She serves on various international committees including Child Health and Mortality Prevention Surveillance (CHAMPS) and Agriculture for Nutrition and Health (A4NH) of International Food Policy and Research Institute (IFPRI). 

She is currently the Vice-President for the African Region for the International Union for Health Promotion and Education (IUHPE). She is a member of the Steering Committee for the NCDI Poverty Network. 

Nationally, she is the chair of the Advocacy Communication and Social Mobilization (ACSM) working group for NCDs in the MoH, Kenya. She also serves in the same position for the NTD Technical Working Group. 

Mary has published widely on health and social development issues including gender, NCDs, neglected tropical diseases (NTDs), child health, gender-based violence, sexual and reproductive health, and poverty.  

Mary holds a PhD in Social Anthropology from the University of Cambridge, UK (1994) and a BA (Anthropology) from the University of Nairobi (1989).
