Dr Oliva Bazirete

Biography

Oliva, who has Ph.D. in Nursing, is a highly experienced midwife with over 20 years of clinical, professional, and academic expertise. She has worked on health systems of low and middle-income countries and is a member of the Safe Motherhood Technical Working Group at Rwanda Biomedical Center.

Oliva is responsible for Continuous Professional Development at the Rwanda Association of Midwives and has been involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, research, and community outreach. Her clinical experience includes working in maternity units in Rwanda. She has presented at numerous national, regional, and international conferences, focusing on nursing and midwifery education as well as maternal, newborn, child, and adolescent health.

As a consultant, Oliva has worked on several projects, including a research project on midwife-led birthing centers in low- and middle-income countries, analyzing the midwifery workforce in East and Southern Africa, and developing and implementing Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning for the 50,000 Happy Birthdays and More Happy Birthday projects in Rwanda.
