Biography

Dr Richmond Aryeetey, Ph.D., is Professor in the Department of Population, Family and Reproductive health at the University of Ghana School of Public Health.

His multidisciplinary research experience over the past twenty years focuses on Maternal, Infant and Young Child Nutrition, and its linkages with Food systems, and nutrition policy. In Ghana, Prof Aryeetey’s research on breastfeeding and complementary feeding of young children include Nutrition Links, Becoming Breastfeeding Friendly (BBF-Ghana), #breastfeed4Ghana, and Trials of improved Practices for Child Feeding. He has also led implementation of the Transform Nutrition West Africa project that included three other countries in West Africa. Prof. Aryeetey serves on various National Committees including the Salt Iodization Committee, and the SUN movement Capacity working group in Ghana.

More recently, he co-chaired the Technical Task Team that prepared Ghana’s first Food-Based Dietary Guidelines. At the global level, he has served on the WHO Guideline Development Group on Complementary feeding, established in 2019. He also serves on the SUN Movement Executive Committee as its MEAL Expert. He has several research collaborations across multiple institutions in Sub-Saharan Africa, North America, and Europe. He has authored more than 140 peer-reviewed journal articles and books/book chapters on various subjects spanning his research interests.
