Dr Sara Monteiro Pires

Sara M. Pires (DVM, PhD) is a senior researcher at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) and Head of PhD School at DTU Food. Sara's overall research goals are to improve risk management and decision making in public health and food safety policy through data analysis, epidemiology, and a range of multidisciplinary approaches. Her research activities focus on applying health metrics to estimate burden of diseases and for quantitative risk benefit assessments to provide evidence for national, regional, and international public health policy. Sara teaches PhD and professional courses on Risk-benefit Assessment of Foods in different fora. She is a member of the World Health Organization Foodborne Disease Burden Epidemiology Reference Group (WHO/FERG), and of other WHO/FAO expert groups.
